Dancehall Origins 2nd Edition took place in London on Saturday 18th March, with invited artists Global Bob, Crazyhype and Stacia Fya – all direct from Jamaica!
Global Bob opened the day with a lecture on Dancehall history and culture, sharing his own personal experiences of the Dancehall Space and Community in Kingston, JA.
After this came three high-energy workshops, one by each artist, all eager to share and accurately represent Dancehall culture – taking the participants on a unique journey to enhance their knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the form.
It was an amazing day and a real development from the 1st Edition held in October 2016. The event saw 49% more participants, we had Dancehall on the Big Screen and we were able to connect with more teachers/instructors – some even travelling from Sheffield and Italy to take part!
A FB post I shared after the event:
WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF
Chad Torrington – can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am to you for believing in the vision from day one! From reaching out to you Summer 16 with my idea, to now hosting you twice in London and you hosting us in Jamaica…am just so thankful for this powerful connection sharing your knowledge, spirit and culture
Michael Graham I knew it would be CRAZYYYY with you! 😉getting everyone partnering up, vibzing together, sharing new EXCLUSIVE STEPS never taught before…more than I could ever have hoped for! So glad you brought us all this on your birthday too!! Start of something big together – you a real MVP!
Finally, the one and only Stacia Fya DANCEHALL EMPRESS took us on an amazing journey from dinki mini right through to kantankarus – left all the women EMPOWERED to the core! Spent the entire workshop looking at you in amazement – everyone was so blown away by your FYA & can’t wait to have you back!
Feeling too many things right now but just to say again a MASSIVE THANK YOU to you all for coming out and supporting the 2nd event of Dancehall Origins! Though we went off schedule at times…👀👀 it was all because the ENERGY & VIBE was unstoppable – and who would get in the way of that?! You all made me emotional in the best way! HUGE BIG UP to all the Dancehall teachers who came out & believe in the vision – I really feel your support & just have mad love for you
None of this would be possible without Tashon: official photographer/confidence-coach/dream-believer and my wonder women Joanna and Jessica who inspire me everyday and can make anything happen!
More long posts and hundreds of pictures to come 😜 THANK YOU EVERYONE!!
