U.Dance London was the regional youth dance platform for the capital city, inviting eight talented youth companies to come together to work, learn and perform on Sunday 14th April 2013. The platform was one of eleven events around the country that led to U.Dance 2013 in Leeds from 18th-21st July.
Youth Dance England’s national flagship festival, U.Dance champions dance for all young people, bringing together two youth companies from each regional platform to take part in four days of dance activities each year.
Through my placement project at Sadler’s Wells, I was responsible for coordinating U.Dance London 2013 in partnership with Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance. The selected youth dance companies took part in workshops, a careers panel, technical and studio rehearsals before the evening performance at Laban Theatre.
Above is a short film of the event, created and directed as an extension of my placement project. The film follows four of the eight companies as they discuss their pieces, how they have been preparing for the day, and their experience of U.Dance London so far.
